The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has prohibited the sale and use of 21 unapproved mobile phone brands, warning that they may pose health, safety, and electromagnetic interference risks to users.

CA Director General David Mugonyi said the affected phones are non–type approved, meaning they do not meet national and international safety and quality standards.

Some of the banned brands

Tinsik, Realfone, F+, Fonrox, Mez, Nemojo, Vue, Bundy, Qqmee, U-FM, Chatada, Superx, Momofly, WR, X Oda, Smba, Q-Seven, Ugbad, FT, Raeno, and Switch.

Guidance to the public

  • Do not buy or sell the listed phone brands.
  • Purchase phones only from licensed vendors.
  • Verify authenticity by:
    • Dialing *#06# to get the 15-digit IMEI.
    • Sending the IMEI via SMS to 1555 or checking on the CA website (free).

The CA says its Type Approval process ensures ICT devices meet safety, health, and electromagnetic compatibility standards, protecting consumers and preventing interference with other electronics.
